The True Widowmaker's Story

So I made an alt yesterday who, while I'm not going to use yet, will definitely use later. I wrote the story and modeled it after my favorite character from my favorite game, Widowmaker from Unreal Tournament 2004. Be warned, it's an incredibly long read. As always, feedback is welcome. Enjoy.

Humanity throughtout the years has had it's great advancements in technology. The 22nd century proved to be once again a platform for such rality altering technological advancements, and by 2154, deep space exploration was possible. Deep space exploration quickly garnered mix results. New life forms were found in different galaxies very rapidly, including the peaceful Nali lifeform, which was discovered in 2198 on the planet of Na Pali. Also on that planet were the Skaaj, an empire which opressed the Nali for centuries. The Skaaj were hostile to the human explorers and killed mostly all who came near the planet. Information from these explorers did not go quiet, and eventually was communicated by to Earth via the advanced communication technologies that were advanced over the century. Eventually more explorers would reach the planet, until a lone vessal crashed on the planet after colliding with a prison transport. There was one lone survivor whose name was never known, but who came to be known as "Prisoner 849" based off her cell number. This prisoner would crash onto Na Pali and would then proceed to outrun the Skaaj for three years until finally killing their queen in 2206. Prisoner 849 would then escape the planet, leading the ragin Skaaj in chase after her. She would evnetually make it back to Earth after out running them until Skaaj stumbled upon more human expeditions in more distant galaxies, including distance unoccupied mining planets. The constant attack on the mining colonies promted Earth governments, who at this time were run by major corporations, to investigate the Skaaj. Eventually in 2208, the Skaaj would attack multiple mining colonies in a short span of time, declaring war on the human corporations. War would echo throughout the galaxies as the two would throw everything they had at each other. The human corporations took on heavily losses and eventually Skaaj would beat the humans out of the foreign galaxies in 2214. This promted the corporation heads to form a non-baised organization to unite the human race in it's time of need, and so in 2215, the New Earth Government (or NEG) was formed. The NEG found limited success in it's infancy, with the Skaaj arriving at Earth in 2216. Humanity is then put under siege by the Skaaj mothership itself until 7 days later when the humans breakthrough and destroy the mothership, killing the queen again in the process. The Skaaj then retreated and the war was ended in a truce, but at the time Earth lay decimated by the Skaaj's relentlessness. The NEG went about trying to rebuild and recontrol many of the cities, but they were met by rebels who had sworn against the NEG while the private corporations funded their defiance, almost reuniting the pety corporation wars once again. The NEG then broke off and esatblishd elite companies of soldiers who helped take back control of Earth's city's by 2219. Earth starts rebuiling, and finally regains it's former and populated beauty by 2255. With the rebuilding complete, the corporations were then impelled to hire agents to sabotage their rivals in almost everything. Thus, in 2260, the corporation wars begin, with the big four of Liandri, Phayder, Axon, and Izanagi all fighting each other. By 2279 Liandri finally gains an advantage, with Izanagi on the brink of bankruptcy and destruction. Izanagi would survive, but it is in 2281 when Liandri starts allowing try outs for everyday citizens to join their army in the form of a tournament. The idea grows vastly popular underground and eventually takes on a sporting, competition like feel. To prevent the winners from allow Liandri to higher only the highest mercenaries, in 2291, the NEG legalizes no-holds barred fighting, and so the Liandri Grand Tournament goes mainstream.

It was around this time in 2283 when a off-planet mining and robotic production facility on asteroid LBX-7683 starts seing solidarity form in its AI, and the robots revolt. The robots, led by robot Xan Kreigor, essentially gain control of the asteroid and start reproducing themselves. It was here where Widowmaker was born. The revolt led to a counter attack by NEG special forces, an attack that took 2 weeks to play out. At the end of the attack, the humans regain control of the asteroid, and re-write all of the surviving bots' AI. Xan Kreigor and The Widowmaker are then forced to enter the underground tournament. When the tournament goes live in 2291, Xan Kreigor is named captain of an all robotic team for his part in leading the LBX rebellion. The Widowmaker would serve on this team, helping Xan take the robots to the Team Finals against the human team of former NEG special-ops, lead by Malcolm. The finals saw Xan face Malcolm one-on-one for the trophy, which Xan narrowly won. With the tournament trophy, Xan automatically retains his right as team captain, and then The Widowmaker would have to play in the shadows for another year. Xan would again meet Malcolm in the tournament finals in 2292, winning again by a narrow margain. With the 2293 season lined up, The Widowmaker would no longer want to serve as a pawn for someone else, and so he would self-destruct and kill Xan after his defeat in the finals to Malcolm that year. The Widowmaker's death saw the end of the robotic dominice for a while, with Malcolm going on to win nine consecutive tournaments from 2293 to 2301. Xan Kreigor in 2301 would be recreated as Xan Kreigor MK 2, only to have his team fail to reach the play-offs. In 2302, Malcolm would suffer a narrow defeat in the tournament finals to a new genetically enchanced Juggernaut team, led by Gorge. The final blow in the match would injure Malcolm and force his retirement after a sub-par 2305 campaign. In 2303, Gorge would suffer a semi-final defeat to the human led team, now called Thunder Crash. Malcolm's injury that year had him waive his captaincy to up and comer Jakob, who would carry the team to the finals against the third re-incarnation of Xan, Xan Kreigor Mk 3. Jakob would win in 2303, but later lose in 2304 to Green Marine, the head of the NEG led group. The NEGs would lose in 2305 to Thunder Crash, now led by tournament veteran Lauren, the first female tournament winner. In 2306 Lauren would lose to Roan Terg of the Necris (undead). At this time the new race of the Nakhti were discovered, and the tournament was put on hold until the deal to technologically advance them was set in place. In return the Nakhti would take their ritual of finding a new emperor by having an ascension tournament would be bought by Liandri, and in 2315 the tournament resumed after Anubis would win the ascension rites tournament. The new emperor would prove his worth and win the tournament that same year. In 2316 he would lose to Lauren's fiance, Brock, which brought the Thunder Crash team their 12th championship. In 2317 Magnus of the NEG backed team would win yet again, and in 2318, with the return or the Izanagi Corporation, Geos Dyron would win. 2319 saw Pariah win for the NEG led forces for a third time. At this time there were talks of reforming the old robotic team, which had been inactive since Xan Kreigor Mk 3's loss to Jakob in the 2303 tournament finals. So Xan Kreigor Mk 4 was born as well as his entire former team, including The Widowmaker. The Widowmaker would waste no time in hashing old problems and would challenge Xan's captaincy in 2320 after their poor performance in the 2319 season. Widowmaker would defeat Xan and become captain that year. The Widowmaker would go on to win the tournament finals in easy fashion, and would dominate the torurnament, winning every year up until 2340 against varying opponents. In 2041, The Widowmaker and the team were starting to be out done by the newer rifle technologies other teams were exploiting. The tournament finals in 2339 saw only a narrow victory, and a tie-breaker implemented for the first time in tournament history the following year in 2340. It was in 2341 when the unthinkable happened, as a genetically healed Malcolm, at aged 80, led the Thunder Crash to one last glory, winning the tournament that year. Malcolm would defeat The Widowmaker in the finals, opening up the posibility of the rebranding of the team. The following year in 2342, the robotic team saw a complete remodel, with a cybernetically enhanced Lauren jumping ship to the robtic team as well as rebranded Xan Kreigor Mk 5. Lauren quickly would prove to be the competition for the captaincy, and eventually would face The Widowmaker one-on-one after beating Xan comfortably for a shot at team captain. This angered the Widowmaker, who would hunt down Lauren outside the arena and kill her ruthlessly to go unchallenged as team captain. The Widowmaker could not escape the law though, and soon NEG and Liandri forces alike would have The Widowmaker subdued. The Skaaj would go on to win the tournament for the very first time and Liandri would go on to raise Lauren from the dead to head the Necris team for the 2343 season, one she ultimately won, becoming the first champion to win from two seperate teams.

Meanwhile, The Widowmaker's memory was to be wiped, and him to be made to look like a human prior to him reprogramming. After the Liandri modded the programming on the first night, The Widowmaker was enraged to find his appearance was permanently rendered to make him look like the woman he had killed. Before the next night, where he was to be cleaned of his memory and programmed into a servant miner, The Widowmaker escaped, fleeing for the Axon coporation's land in the east. The Widowmaker successfully survived, but Liandri would quickly go about erasing any memory of The Widowmaker's presense, even going so far as to claim that the twenty years where The Widowmaker ruled the tournament from 2320 to 2340 never happened and that the tournament was not run those years thanks to the possibility of a second Skaaj war and a second corporation war, wars that never happened. Eventually The Widowmaker would serve Axon in the Second Corporation Wars, which took place in 2355. The Widowmaker found limited success and Axon was cut down to size even more after the war's conclusion. The Widowmaker would then leave for Phayder before the NEG would penalize them for land after an alleged ring of Necris creations that would serve in the army. The taking of Phayder lands by the NEG almost sparked a third corporation war, as many thought it was done thanks to a large kickback from Liandri, who had paid the NEG to sanction an Izanagi-backed group of mercenaries to be trained under the then 94 year old Malcolm, who was truly a Liandri for well over 50 years. Malcolm would then sell out the Izanagi group by leaving them to die in Phyader land. The controversy severly weakend all but Liandri, however it gave Izanagi vast lands in the end, and so the Widowmaker moved there in 2360.

In 2381 Malcolm, aged 120 would pass away, rippling grief throughout the universe. Even the hostile Skaaj, who still hated the human race would send their highest officers to attend his state funeral. Aside from The Widowmaker's now non-existent 20 tournament wins, no one had even come close to matching Malcolm's 10 tournament victorys, with Xan Kreigor Mk 6 winning just once, giving him the next closest with a distant 3.

By 2385 the tournament had lost it's appeal with no one team really dominating the competition, and in 2388, Earth had a new threat, Brainiac. By this time The Widowmaker was just a standard house bot, but with the Brainiac invasion and subsequent fight by newly arrived superheros, many new pieces of technological advancement in exobytes were lost. A few of these exobytes found their way into shop The Widowmaker worked at, and The Widowmaker soon studied them. Upon their study, The Widowmaker received increible power, and soon he found himself able to modify rifles to fire and contort bullets to his will. The new powers did nothing for his physical state, and soon his attempts to rectify his Lauren appearence failed as the visual chip fractured, leaving his outdated and obsolete physical state in tact forever. Soon The Widowmaker would fight Brainiac's forces, but would punish humans in the process for their role in his demise. This got him into trouble with superheros and Brainiac alike, and soon after Brainiac would corner The Widowmaker, capturing him. The Widowmaker was more sly than one would assume, and soon Lex Luthor would find the Widowmaker and aid his destruction of the havester he was captured on. Soon The Joker would take interest in The Widowmaker, and with the new exobytes The Widowmaker vowed to forever make those who tried to have Brainiac destroy him, and cause his demise from the tournament glory suffer and perish.

With the Brainiac invasion the NEG would abolish corporations, and now companies were once again populating the city streets. The NEG would then make way for the Justice League, and the tournament was forever abandoned. Now, it's 2390, Brainiac still has a presense on Earth, and The Widowmaker still lusts for vengence. And so, it is here where The Widowmaker decided to start re-writting his own history and to vow to dominate the Earth once it was solely his so that he can one day re-create the tournament to place those who grievenced him in to meet their untimely fates time and time again. Alas, The True Widowmaker was born...
