Hecatee only wanted to be normal. But what is normal when the world is going to end?

Hecatee stood inside her new apartment. She was amazed at what she saw. The stone walls and the torches on the walls gave it a very old and mystical appearance. She walked to the back and realized it was much larger than she had expected. As she walked back towards the door, she saw Associate Fannie and Baal waiting on her. “oh my god, this place is amazing. And it is all mine?”

Associate Fannie said “Yes it is. It appears it was once a residence for some of Circe’s former followers. But since Circe turned them into bestiamorphs, they won’t need it.”

Baal looked at his granddaughter, and he could tell she was excited. “Is there anything else” he asked the woman.

“Yes sir, here are the documents you requested. Calculator says to not worry about the charge, it is on the house. And he said to give these to the young lady.” Associate Fannie stretched out her hand and in it was a contact lens case. The young woman looked at the case, and then looked at her grandfather with a perplexed look.

“You will need to take that” he said.

Hecatee reached out and took the small case. She had never worn glasses and her vision was 20/20. She was still puzzled.

“Is that everything” Baal inquired of Associate Fannie.

“Yes sir. If you or your granddaughter need anything else, please stop by and let me know. It was very nice to meet both of you.” Associate Fannie turn and walked out the door.

Baal turned to Hecatee and said “You should try to put those on” and nodded at the case in her hand. Hecatee was unsure about the contact lenses. She was not sure she could stick her finger in her eye. It took her several attempts before she finally got the first one in place. It did not take quit as long to get the second one in her eye. She looked around the apartment, and could not tell a difference. She looked at Baal and ask “What are these for?”

“Close your eyes for 3 seconds, and then open them” he replied

Hecatee closed her eyes and slowly counted to 3 and then she opened her eyes. Suddenly she could see all kinds of things. There was a small map that displayed her current location, her own vital signs, and those of Baal. “wow” she exclaimed “this is so cool”.

“This technology is standard for those who are members of the Secret Society of Super-Villains, or the Society as it is often called. And this is for you as well.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out a cell phone. He handed it to Hecatee, “This is so new it has not even been released for sale yet. There are 2 numbers programmed in it. The first is mine, should you ever been in trouble you cannot get out of by yourself. The second is a number for Calculator. I am sure by now he has the number in his database.”

Hecatee took the phone from her grandfather and threw her arms around him. She had a difficult childhood, but since he had come into her life it was getting better. Baal gave his granddaughter as squeeze and then released her. “It is about time I go. You will need to start living your own life. Remember what you have learned, and that I am always just a thought away.” She started to object, but in a flash of fire he was gone. She stood there, in her huge apartment, all alone

It had been about 3 months since Hecatee had begun to live in Metropolis. She had gotten a job waiting tables at the Bibbo’s down the street. She had done some work for The Society as well. The young sorceress had even made a trip to the Hall of Doom, but she got lost there so she was not in a hurry to go back. She had gotten use to wearing the contacts, even though she did not keep them active most of the time. Hecatee had pulled the closing shift at Bibbo’s the night before so she was trying to sleep in when the phone rang. Half asleep, she answered the phone “mmm, yeah”

The gravelly voice on the other end said “This is Calculator. We have an extreme problem and everyone is being called to the Hall. Get here as quickly as you can.” And he hung up.

Hecatee was awake now. She rolled out of bed and stumbled to the bathroom. The sorceress splashed some water on her face and looked up. The attractive young woman thought “If only the guys could see me now”. Her hair was a mess and of course there was morning breath. Calculator might have said as soon as possible, but she was not going out looking like this. She brushed her teeth with one hand and ran a brush through her hair with the other. “that is better” she thought as she walked from the bathroom and back to the bedroom. The lady slipped out of the oversized t-shirt she had been sleeping in and threw it on the bed. She slid on her favorite lavender pants and a tank top that showed her midriff and a short sleeved jacket over that. Last were her heeled boots. Now she was ready to go out in public. It was just a few blocks to the night club so she walked out her door and headed west. At first, everything seemed normal, but then Hecatee realized that people were running franticly past her. She looked up just in time to see a giant robot spider coming towards her. A blast of yellow light and she was trapped inside a force field. A few seconds later, everything was black.
